West Kent: A voice for every community
West Kent will bring together a diverse mix of towns, villages, rural communities and growing urban areas, each with its own character, challenges and ambitions.
For Snodland, being part of a larger West Kent area should not mean losing our local identity or having our priorities overlooked. I want to ensure that Snodland and the surrounding communities have a strong, independent voice and that local issues remain part of the conversation as West Kent develops.
This page will explore the opportunities and challenges facing West Kent, alongside the work I am doing to ensure that local communities are properly represented.
Understanding West Kent's diversity
West Kent is much more than an administrative area. It is made up of many different communities, from larger towns and growing urban areas to villages and rural communities, each with their own character, needs and priorities.
What works for one community will not necessarily work for another. Decisions about housing, transport, infrastructure, public services, the environment and investment need to take account of local circumstances rather than treating every part of West Kent in the same way.
For Snodland, maintaining that local perspective is particularly important. Our community has its own identity, opportunities and challenges, and those should be recognised as part of the wider West Kent picture.
I want to help ensure that Snodland is not simply seen as one small part of a much larger authority, but as a community whose experiences and priorities deserve to be understood and represented.
Ensuring local voices are heard
My focus is on practical local representation: listening to residents, understanding the issues affecting our communities and making sure those concerns are reflected when wider decisions are being made.
That includes issues such as the quality of local services, infrastructure and transport, housing and development, public spaces, the environment, support for local businesses and opportunities for residents and community organisations.
The creation of West Kent Council will bring together communities with different experiences and priorities. I believe this makes effective local representation more important, not less.
I will continue to follow developments closely, listen to residents and raise issues that matter to Snodland and the surrounding communities. Where decisions are being made at a West Kent level, I will look at their potential local impact and ask the questions that matter to our community.
My aim is straightforward: to make sure local knowledge is valued, local concerns are heard and Snodland has a meaningful voice in shaping the future of West Kent.
Updates and insights for West Kent
This page will provide regular, relevant updates about developments across West Kent, with particular attention to issues that could affect Snodland and our surrounding communities.
Updates may include important decisions by the new West Kent Council, changes to local services, transport and infrastructure developments, planning and housing, environmental issues, funding opportunities, community projects and opportunities for residents and local organisations to get involved.
I will also use this page to share updates from my own work, including issues I am raising, discussions and meetings I am involved in, and matters where I believe Snodland's interests need to be represented.
Where appropriate, I will also highlight positive developments, successful community initiatives and achievements from across West Kent. I want this to be a useful source of information rather than simply a collection of official announcements.
The wider West Kent area may be changing, but the importance of local communities remains the same. This page is about keeping residents informed, encouraging participation and making sure that the voice of Snodland continues to be heard.
